NOTICE: This file contains all upgrades to GRUNT! that have occured during
the latest version. They are listed from the last release to the
most recent release.
Testing BugFixes and Updates:
───────────────────────────────
v1.040[k] fixes:
────────────────
o. Updated 'read-only' files to access in READ ONLY mode. This should help
to speed up the game play.
v1.040 fixes:
─────────────
o. Anonymous fixed.
o. Registration key section updated.
o. NETWORK fully restructured. Most systems under version 1.0.035 will
experience program crashes under multi-node if they have fast
machines. Changed the code to base it's findings off the cpu clock
rather than delay period.
o. Dungeon re-compilation [dungeon is now finished]
o. Structure of FOSSIL bad. Fixed.
o. Nearly 200 hours have gone into work on the code. Hundreds of
procedures have been re-written to work with the new editor.
o. GETNEW procedures slightly vamped to help users enter their
statistics a little better. Duplicate name checking also established.
o. Cleanup routines have now been moved to a newer, more sophisticated
method of crunching the dungeon. Dungeons are now only built to the
size that they are actually needed. No longer are they maxed out to
clean the buffer spaces, as they were done before.
o. INSTALL, CLEANUP and GRUNTCFG are all now under the NEW code, and you
should appreciate them a lot more. The ability to modify, edit and
all other things is vastly improved. No more work for the sysop!
o. GRUNTED.EXE is currently being worked on. A release date is not yet
pending. This program will allow your users to make dungeons ON THE
FLY! It has built in "EDIT-AS-YOU-GO" features that even a 2 year old
could figure out! Coming SOON!
v1.0.031ß fixes:
────────────────
o. Updated the documentation to better reflect the multi-node aspects.
o. Updated the CLEANUP procedures to do nightly maintenance on the
userfiles and the daily news files. Forgot this in the last version as
I was moving it off-line.
o. Updated CLEANUP.EXE, INSTALL.EXE and GRUNTCFG.EXE to *NOT* look at
the COM ports regardless of their status. Some sysops were reporting
that these programs were looking at COM1:. *Fixed*
o. Showing objects that were the type of "DOOR" were reporting as being
closed regardless of their status. Fixed.
o. Miscellaneous fixes. Lots of cleanup in the code along with making
the expert command more expert.
v1.0.030ß fixes:
────────────────
o. Pawn shop accidentally was taking gold away, rather than giving it.
Sorry about that one guys! Fixed!
o. Moved the CLEANUP routines out of the main code, and placed them
externally. Sysops should run this once per day (at night) through their
nightly event batch files.
v1.0.029ß fixes:
────────────────
o. Continual Upgrade Progress.
o. Added a toggle in CONFIG.DAT to allow sysops to turn their names off
from being displayed upon logging into GRUNT. This is for BBS's that
use anonymous names for both users and sysops.
o. Gold dropped on the ground was being deemed "uncarriable" - fixed.
o. Added a toggle in CONFIG.DAT to allow the TIMER on the "MORE!" prompts
to be toggled on or off.
o. Nasty bug in the death routines caused a player to save the contents of
room into town square. This caused hectic problems! Nasty Nasty! Fixed!
o. Fixed the "K" command in the battle routines. Sometimes it allowed users
to kill a monster that wasn't there, spreading garbage across the
screen. Some sysops reported this was crashing GRUNT! - Fixed.
o. Added CLEANUP routines to stock the dungeon every day.
o. Added an OVERLAY file to optimize EMS memory. If you are having trouble
with this .OVR file, simply erase GRUNT.EXE and GRUNT.OVR, and rename
the file GRUNT-N.EXE to GRUNT.EXE (GRUNT-N.EXE is the compiled version
of GRUNT without the overlay capabilities).
v1.0.028ß fixes:
────────────────
o. Continual Upgrade Progress.
o. Most procedures have all been updated to conform to new code.
o. Added "real-time" to the game to help move it along faster.
o. Updated dungeon sequences and modified internal descriptions; helps
that you don't have a majority of monsters fighting with their teeth!
v1.0.027ß fixes: ** Version NOT released Public **
────────────────
o. The *ENTIRE* menu structure has been changed around to more conform
to a 'single-key-punch' system. Since many users couldn't handle (and
some sysops either...) the verbosity, I devised a way to use single key
strokes to accomplish the same thing.
o. Continual progress made on the dungeon module.
o. Continual upgrades and progres made on GRUNT game it'self.
v1.0.026ß-v1.0.027ß fixes:
──────────────────────────
o. Fixed inconsistency bug in the registration area.
o. Version v1.0.025ß may have accidentally gone out without the dungeon
information in it! Sorry! Version v1.0.026ß fixes this.
o. Upgraded documentation to fit my own standards.
o. Continual progress made on the dungeon module.
o. Continual upgrades and progress made on the GRUNT game it'self.
o. Change in version number to reflect game status.
v0.020 <--> v0.025 fixes:
─────────────────────────
o. TOO MANY CHANGES TO EVEN MENTION...
o. Dungeon updated.
o. Player attributes updated.
o. TONS of routines working now...
o. GRUNT is now a fully-interactive RPG door. No More LORD Look-Alike!
-----------------------------------------
v0.020+ ARE FULL CODE TRANSFORMATIONS
-----------------------------------------
v0.019 fixes:
─────────────
o. The GRUNT configuration KEY is now completed, and fully registered
versions of GRUNT are now workable. Although there is still room to
grow and develop, all functions are now available that were not
before in the unregistered versions. Only version 0.019 is
registerable.
o. Added more information into the dungeon file. Eventually I will be
adding the dungeon compiler along with the code.
v0.018 fixes:
─────────────
o. Added ANSI graphics for the local side.
o. Problems with the OVERLAY file caused me to compile the program under
non-overlay parameters. I did however increase the memory.
v0.017 fixes:
─────────────
o. Update in Alpha Code.
o. Found a bug in the STATUS bit routines in the CHATBAR. Caused your
users to have to hang up to get out of the door. FIXED! This was a
major headache to get rid of, but I finally did it.
o. I added the TOPTEN roster listings for the best users. It lists all
players in GRUNT regardless of how many players there are.
v0.016 fixes:
─────────────
o. Update in Alpha Code.
o. Sorry guys, but I needed to make modifications to the users record
structure. The new structure adds 16 more things that players can
carry around with them. It also adds more internal dimension to
users structure and makes the player more powerful in the overall
game. Sorry, but the old user structure is NOW removed and your users
will have to start over. This is only the 1st in 16 version releases,
and should be the last unless some drastic measure needs to be taken.
o. Added spell casting to the game. Lots of users wanted this, and I
thought I'd better get it done before other things were completed. There
is a great deal of work to do on it, and that's why this version took
longer to get out. The spells are not 100% completed yet, but within the
next couple of versions, they will be.
o. We are getting closer to completing the game! Just wanted to thank all
of the Sysops who are pouring information into me, getting the code
completed at an alarming rate! Thanks!
v0.015 fixes:
─────────────
o. Update in Alpha Code.
o. Miscellaneous corrections, bug fixes, spelling errors, and mods to
the general information files.
o. The guys over at Share City BBS (John St. Clair, Sysop) have been
hammering out on GRUNT! They found a bug in the SORT routines, causing
the sorter to crash if more than 50 users were in the GRUNT database,
(it was set to only sort 20, but was sorting beyond it's capacity) thus
causing the program to crash and return to DOS. Fixed!
o. Increased the maximum number of nodes from {alpha} 5 to 50. This will
cause a little slowdown on the network, but will remove error #209.
o. Nightly Maintenance routines now clean out the network file. This
insures that nobody gets left in the network file on accident
for more than 24hrs. Usually this only happens if there is a crash.
o. My beta testors (local ones) already found a bug in the CHATBAR
functions. This toggle has been temporarily fixed. It causes an
error_drop in the erase_file routines during multi-node chat. This
is caused by a sharing violation upon trying to erase the file.
o. Due to inconsistancies in file handling in Borland Turbo Pascal 6.0,
and textfile routines under networking, I have re-written the
Networking Routines in GRUNT! again to handle pure file locking
routines intead of relying on BP 6.0. This should make less problems
under chatting in the Inn, and messages back and forth between nodes.
v0.014 fixes:
─────────────
o. Update in Alpha Code.
o. Added parameter to allow users to exit GRUNT when they want before
having to actually get into the menu.
o. Fixed the readfile command. It was not re-setting the number of lines
read, thus the scroll-back buffer was being filled even after a screen
was cleared.
o. Fixed the maintenance pack routines. I decided to keep the user indexes
in instead of removing them.
v0.013 fixes:
─────────────
o. Sorry guys, three of my top beta testors found a networking error in
the writenode routines. This caused another player to be booted out
of grunt during the logon process. Very sorry! While version 0.13 does
not fix this problem, it solves it temporarily. The problem will
be solved in later versions. Thanks!
v0.012 fixes:
─────────────
o. Update in Alpha Code.
v0.011 fixes:
─────────────
o. Update in Alpha Code.
o. Found a bug in the training routines. If a player went into training,
and then ran away, the player would automatically gain the next level.
This has been fixed!
o. Re-wrote some of the attacking routines and made the whole attack system
better with more displays. Shouldn't confuse the users too much.
Eventually I will fully re-write all four sections of fighting areas.
v0.010 fixes:
─────────────
o. Removed the GRUNTSRT.EXE program. It was a small 4k program that sorted
the players file and displayed the list. Some systems were unable to run
the program, thus causing GRUNT to crash. I have moved the routines
internal and increased the stack size of the code. Hopefully this
measure will not affect any systems (causing a crash in the program
only).
v0.009 fixes:
─────────────
o None. Update in alpha code.
v0.008 fixes:
─────────────
o Added parameter "UN-USE" for taking armor, pants, shirts, caps, cloaks,
gloves, weapons and rings off.
v0.007 fixes:
─────────────
o None. Update in alpha code.
v0.006 fixes:
─────────────
o None. Update in alpha code.
v0.005 fixes:
─────────────
o None to report. This is the first ALPHA release.
